Fireful of Fear, initiated in 2008
In September 2008, I placed a series of twelve ceramic sculptures in various canyons in and around Malibu, CA, to--eventually--be fired by wildfire. However long it takes, the text pieces will remain in the landscape until firing is complete. Visit the Fireful of Fear site for more information.
Update: six of the Fireful of Fear ceramics were (wild)fired in the Woolsey Fire of November 2018. They had been in the landscape for ten years. The Woolsey Fire affected 96,949 acres of land, destroyed 1,643 structures, killed three people, and prompted the evacuation of more than 295,000 people. In February 2019 Catherine Wagley wrote about Fireful of Fear and these recent developments for Los Angeles Magazine.
Fireful of Fear has been included in several exhibitions, at the Houston Center for Contemporary Craft, the California Museum of Photography, Wilding Cran gallery (curated by Michael Slenske), 2021 NCECA Annual: Social Recession (invited artist), and the Cerritos College Art Gallery.
