The Remarks series is a poly-conscious oratorical exploration recognizing that the self is eager for expression, etiquette, and permeability. For each iteration, I wrote remarks to be given by an event organizer after they had invited me to participate or perform. After getting to know the text, the remarker could choose to deliver it however they wanted. They could also decline to participate. I was interested in exploring bureaucratic speech and the idea of “productive” communication. I wanted to open up space for emotive and relational declarations—in groups.
